MLB Season Review: Cleveland Indians sweep Seattle Mariners 3-0
American League’s Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners both battled it out in an exciting three game series. Indians did a tremendous job as they crushed the Mariners 3-0 in the series. Cleveland has had an exceptional season so far as they got an exemplary
Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 8: Cleveland Indians 12 – Seattle Mariners 3
Indians managed a 12-3 win in the first game, as Carlos Carrasco was impressive with his pitching. He had six strike-outs with an ERA of 5.68 in the Indians convincing victory. Indians’ manager, Manny Acta was excited after this impressive win and said,
“Carrasco basically set the tone for us. He threw some zeros out there and gave us an opportunity to come up in the fourth inning and do what we did.”
On the other side, Mariners’ batters got only three runs in the whole game. Jason Vargas pitched well for the Mariners but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter on his 63 pitches and permitted nine hits
with seven earned runs.
Game 2 – April 9: Cleveland Indians 2 – Seattle Mariners 1
In the second game, Indians outshined the Mariners 2-1. Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over six innings and surrendered just one run, four hits, one walk, no home-run and one earned run on his 111 pitches.
Masterson had nine strike-outs with an ERA of 1.35.
Mariners struggled with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Doug Fister had a shaky day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 2.31 and gave away six hits, two runs, two walks, no homer and one earned run on his 105 pitches.
Game 3 – April 10: Cleveland Indians 6 – Seattle Mariners 4
During the third and final game of the series, Mariners lost 6-4. Indians’ centre-fielder Ryan Langerhans shined as he completed one run including two RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .167. Josh Tomlin pitched just over six superb innings to give
the Indians a valuable victory. Tomlin said, “My main goal is to go as deep as I can and give us a chance every time I go out there.”
Mariners’ batters were able to yield only four runs in the series finale. Erik Bedard pitched four innings and gave away six runs, 10 hits, six earned runs and one walk on his 83 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort kept the Indians on top against
the Mariners throughout the series.
