MLB Season Review: Colorado Rockies beat Pittsburgh Pirates 3-1 in four-game series
National League’s Colorado Rockies and Pittsburgh Pirates both went head-to-head in a thrilling four game series. Rockies put in a tremendous performance as they sealed a 3-1 victory in this series after defeating the Pirates convincingly. Rockies have had
a remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the early spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 7: Colorado Rockies 7 – Pittsburgh Pirates 1
Rockies directed a 7-1 win in the first game, as Esmil Rogers was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over seven respective innings with an ERA of 1.23 and struck-out seven batters in the Rockies victory.
On the other side, Pirates’ batters were able to add only one run right through the complete game. Paul Maholm pitched well for the Pirates but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter during his 78 pitches
and gave away no walk, eight hits, five runs, one home-run and three earned runs with an ERA of 2.19.
Game 2 – April 8: Colorado Rockies 3 – Pittsburgh Pirates 4
In the second game, Pirates outclassed the Rockies 4-3. Pirates’ starter, Ross Ohlendorf pitched the ball accurately but was expensive as he threw just over two innings and allowed three hits with an ERA of 7.27. Ohlendorf struck-out three batters on his
52 pitches and help guide the team to victory.
Rockies were shaky with the bat and added just three runs until the end of the game. Jorge De La Rosa struggled with the ball as he pitched five innings with an ERA of 1.74 and surrendered two hits with three walks on his 80 pitches. La Rosa struck-out two
batters.
Game 3 – April 9: Colorado Rockies 6 – Pittsburgh Pirates 4
During third game of the series, Pirates lost 6-4. Rockies’ first baseman Ty Wigginton shined as he struck three RBIs and went 1-for-4 with an average of .227. He put in an amazing effort to help his team dominate the game early.
Pirates’ batters yielded only four runs in this crucial game. Charlie Morton pitched seven innings and gave away three runs, five hits, two earned runs and five walks on his 92 pitches.
Game 4 – April 10: Colorado Rockies 6 – Pittsburgh Pirates 5
Rockies won the series finale 6-5 as each player executed particularly well in their respective disciplines. Jhoulys Chacin threw his six innings with an ERA of 2.77 and struck-out three batters. He allowed seven hits and four earned runs. However, a brilliant
team effort gave the Rockies a series win against the struggling Pirates.
