MLB Season Review: Colorado Rockies defeat Chicago Cubs 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Rockies did a noticeable job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Cubs convincingly. Rockies have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 15: Chicago Cubs 0 – Colorado Rockies 5
Rockies directed a 5-0 win in the first game, as Jhoulys Chacin was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective nine innings with an ERA of 1.64 and struck-out seven batters in the Rockies victory. Cubs’ manager, Mike Quade said, “What a good-looking
young pitcher. To have that kind of repertoire in this kind of ball park and everything else, I mean he was good. I am impressed.”
On the other side, Cubs’ batters were unable to add any run right through the complete game. Matt Garza pitched well for the Rockies but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out five batters during his 119 pitches and gave
away two walks, seven hits, five runs, no home-run and five earned runs with an ERA of 6.27.
Game 2 – April 16: Chicago Cubs 8 – Colorado Rockies 3
In the second game, Cubs outclassed the Rockies 8-3. Cubs’ starter, Casey Coleman pitched the ball accurately as he threw just over five innings and allowed only four hits with an ERA of 4.22. Coleman struck-out three batters during his 97 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Coleman said, “He threw me a really good curveball in my first at-bat and then he threw one that I don't think was as good as the first one.”
Rockies were struggling with the bat and added just three runs until the end of the game. Jason Hammel had a bad day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 4.76 and surrendered seven hits with one walk on his 99 pitches. Hammel struck-out
five batters and gave away just three earned runs.
Game 3 – April 17: Chicago Cubs 5 – Colorado Rockies 9
During the last game of the series, Cubs lost 9-5. Rockies’ left-fielder Carlos Gonzalez shined as he struck two RBIs and went 4-for-5 with an average of .288.
Cubs’ batters were able to yield only five runs in the series finale. Ryan Dempster pitched five innings and gave away five runs, seven hits, five earned runs and one home-run on his 104 pitches. However, a team effort gave the Rockies the series win against
the struggling Cubs.
