MLB Season Review: Colorado Rockies sweep Chicago Cubs 2-0 in two-game series
National League’s Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs both were brisk after finishing their spring training season in a style. Rockies were amazing and did an apparent job as they completed a 2-0 victory in this series after defeating the Cubs. During last
games of the spring training season, Rockies’ players guided their team in a strong position.
Let us take an overview and see how the Rockies overpowered the Cubs.
Game 1 – April 25: Colorado Rockies 5 – Chicago Cubs 3
Rockies managed a 5-3 win in the first game, as Esmil Rogers was impressive with his pitching. He had three strike-outs with an ERA of 6.33 in the Rockies convincing victory. Rockies’ manager, Jim Tracy was excited after this credible win as he said, “Obviously
the conditions were pretty tough to play in tonight. I don't think you can ask a group of players to handle the ball any better with the field conditions, as wet as it was.”
Jose Lopez had a memorable day with the bat as he went 0-or-3 with an average of .153 and hit one RBI including one run. Dexter Fowler, Fielder, Troy Tulowitzki, Seth Smith, Lopez and Rogers each showed their contribution and added five runs collectively
to give the Rockies a competitive lead over the Cubs.
Conversely, the Cubs’ batters contributed only three runs right through the complete game. The batters struggled with their bats and did not find much room to take valuable runs. Matt Garza pitched well for his team but that was not enough to steal a win
for the Cubs. He struck-out seven batters on his 102 pitches. Garza permitted five runs, three hits, one walk, no home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 4.11.
Game 2 – April 26: Colorado Rockies 4 – Chicago Cubs 3
In the second or final game of the series, Rockies again hammered the Cubs 4-3. Rockies’ starter, Jorge De La Rosa threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered only six hits and two runs on his 110 pitches. La Rosa had nine strike-outs
with an ERA of 2.61.
Speaking to reporters, Tracy said, “We got a very good start tonight. He got better as the game went along. As his tempo into the game got better, so did he.”
Cubs’ Starlin Castro, Darwin Barney and Alfonso Soriano were the only players who scored three runs for their team. James Russell had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just four innings with an ERA of 8.31 and gave away five hits, four runs, three walks,
three homers and four earned runs on his 82 pitches. Russell struck-out four batters on his respective pitched innings.
However, the Rockies were on top till the last game and sealed a series victory.
