MLB Season Review: Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics level four-game series 2-all
American League’s Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics both fought well in a thrilling four game series. Tigers and Athletics both did an imposing job as they tied the four-game series 2-2. Tigers have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary Win-Loss
record during the early part of the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 14: Detroit Tigers 3 – Oakland Athletics 0
Tigers directed a 3-0 win in the first game, as Phil Coke was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 2.25 and struck-out only two batters in the Tigers victory. Tigers’ manager, Jim Leyland said, “He was impressive.
His mindset was to be a starter and he's getting into a groove.”
On the other side, Athletics’ batters were unable to add even a single run right through the complete game. Gio Gonzalez pitched well for the Athletics but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just six batters during
his 103 pitches and gave away six walks including two hits with an ERA of 0.47.
Game 2 – April 15: Detroit Tigers 8 – Oakland Athletics 4
In the second game, Tigers outclassed the Athletics 8-4. Tigers’ starter, Rick Porcello pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw six innings and allowed seven hits with an ERA of 6.19. Porcello struck out only four batters on his 103
pitches and gave away one walk with one earned run.
Athletics were shaky with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. Brandon McCarthy had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 2.45 and surrendered six hits with one walk on his 114 pitches. McCarthy
had seven strike-outs on his respective pitches.
Game 3 – April 16: Detroit Tigers 2 – Oakland Athletics 6
During third game of the series, Tigers lost 6-2. Athletics’ designated hitter Hideki Matsui shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-4 with an average of .245.
Tigers yielded only two runs in this crucial game. Justin Verlander pitched six innings and gave away four runs, eight hits, three earned runs and three walks on his 116 pitches. He said, “I saw the video of it and I couldn't help but laugh at myself.”
Game 4 – April 17: Detroit Tigers 1 – Oakland Athletics 5
Athletics won the series finale with 5-1 as each player executed particularly well in their respective disciplines. Trevor Cahill threw his eight innings with an ERA of 2.49 and struck-out nine batters. However, a decent team effort kept the Tigers and Athletics
both on top throughout the four-game series.
