MLB Season Review: Detroit Tigers defeat Seattle Mariners 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners both fought it out in a thrilling three game series. Tigers did a noticeable job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Mariners convincingly. Tigers have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 18: Detroit Tigers 8 – Seattle Mariners 3
Tigers directed an 8-3 win in the first game, as Max Scherzer was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 4.30 and struck-out seven batters in the Tigers victory. Victor Martinez said, “If I just need three days I'll
be happy, but it's pretty sore right now. I don't know. I'll just take it day by day and see what happens.”
On the other side, Mariners’ batters were able to add only three runs right through the complete game. Jason Vargas pitched well for the Mariners but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his
114 pitches and gave away two walks, six hits, two runs, no home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 4.37.
Game 2 – April 19: Detroit Tigers 3 – Seattle Mariners 13
In the second game, Mariners outclassed the Tigers 13-3. Mariners’ starter, Doug Fister pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over six innings and allowed only five hits with an ERA of 3.60. Fister was able to strike-out just seven batters during
his 110 pitches.
Fister said, “That was the pitch I was looking for and I didn't make that, but coming in and having him come in right behind me, I have the utmost confidence in Jamey.”
Tigers struggled with the bat and added just three runs until the end of the game. Phil Coke had an average day with the ball as he pitched just over three innings with an ERA of 2.75 and surrendered six hits with four walks on his 89 pitches. Coke was unable
to strike-out any batter and gave away just two earned runs.
Game 3 – April 20: Detroit Tigers 3 – Seattle Mariners 2
During the last game of the series, Mariners lost 3-2. Tigers’ left-fielder Brennan Boesch shined as he struck one RBI and went 1-for-3 with an average of .333.
Mariners’ batters were able to yield only two runs in the series finale. Erik Bedard pitched five innings and gave away three runs, five hits, three earned runs and one home-run on his 95 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort gave the Tigers the series
win against the Mariners.
