MLB Season Review: Detroit Tigers defeat Texas Rangers 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers both went head-to-head in an exciting three game series. Tigers did a tremendous job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Rangers convincingly. Detroit has had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 11: Texas Rangers 2 – Detroit Tigers 0
Rangers directed a 2-0 win in the first game, as Alexi Ogando was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 0.00 and struck-out four batters in the Rangers victory. Speaking to reporters, Michael Young said, “That's
the good thing about Wash -- he goes with what his gut says. You've got two great hitters.”
On the other side, Tigers’ batters were unable to add any run right through the complete game. Justin Verlander pitched well for the Tigers but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his 119 pitches
and gave away one walk, six hits, two runs, no home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 3.13.
Game 2 – April 12: Texas Rangers 4 – Detroit Tigers 5
In the second game, Tigers outclassed the Rangers 5-4. Tigers’ starter, Brad Penny pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over six innings and allowed seven hits with an ERA of 8.27. Penny struck-out two batters during his 89 pitches.
Penny said, “He does it every year. He comes to play. He's been working hard.”
Rangers were shaky with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. C.J. Wilson had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 3.72 and surrendered seven hits with three walks on his 106 pitches. Wilson
struck-out four batters and gave away four earned runs.
Game 3 – April 13: Texas Rangers 2 – Detroit Tigers 3
During the last game of the series, Rangers lost 3-2. Tigers’ right-fielder Brennan Boesch shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-4 with an average of .297. Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said, “I thought that was really a good game. We knew it might be
hard to score runs, because they were going to be using a lot of pitchers, and that makes it tough on the hitters.”
Rangers’ batters were able to yield only two runs in the series finale. Dave Bush pitched three innings and gave away three hits with three walks on his 71 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Tigers a series win against the struggling Rangers.
