MLB Season Review: Detroit Tigers dominate Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 in four-game series
American League’s Detroit Tigers and Toronto Blue Jays fought it out in an exciting four-game series. Detroit were incredible and did a key job as they confirmed a 3-1 victory in the series after defeating the Blue Jays comfortably.
Let us take a rundown of these four games and see how the Tigers beat the Blue Jays.
Game 1 – May 6: Detroit Tigers 4 – Toronto Blue Jays 7
Blue Jays directed a 7-4 win in the first game, as Jesse Litsch was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over six respective innings with an ERA of 4.04 and struck-out nine batters in the Blue Jays victory. Tigers’ manager, Jim Leyland said, “He's
obviously a very powerful guy but he's got tremendous balance with just a great swing. He's been swinging exceptionally well.”
Tigers were able to post only four runs right through the entire game. Phil Coke threw nicely for the Tigers but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only five batters during his 79 pitches and gave away four earned runs
including 11 hits with an ERA of 4.75.
Game 2 – May 7: Detroit Tigers 9 – Toronto Blue Jays 0
In the second game, Tigers outclassed the Blue Jays 9-0 and levelled the four-game series 1-1. Tigers’ starter, Justin Verlander pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw nine innings and allowed just one walk with an ERA of 3.16. Verlander was able
to strike-out only four batters on his 108 pitches.
Blue Jays showed shakiness with the bat and did not take any runs until the end of the game. Ricky Romero had an average day with the ball as he pitched just over three innings with an ERA of 4.04 and surrendered five hits with six earned runs on his 74
pitches. Romero struck-out only two batters on his respective innings pitched.
Game 3 – May 8: Detroit Tigers 5 – Toronto Blue Jays 2
During the third game of the series, Blue Jays lost 5-2. Tigers’ centre-fielder Austin Jackson shined as he struck two RBIs and went 3-for-5 with an average of .224.
Leyland said, “He gave us some innings and gave us a chance to win the game. He pitched a good game his last start and he pitched a good game today.”
Blue Jays’ batters were able to yield only two runs in this important game. Jo-Jo Reyes threw seven innings and gave away five runs, eight hits, five earned runs and one walk on his 81 pitches.
Game 4 – May 9: Detroit Tigers 10 – Toronto Blue Jays 5
Tigers won the series finale 10-5 as each player executed superbly in their respective departments. Tigers’ starter, Max Scherzer threw his five innings with an ERA of 3.20 and struck-out five batters. However, Tigers were on top till the entire series and
sealed it impressively.
