MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies level two-game series 1-1
National League’s Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies both went head-to-head in a thrilling two game series. Marlins and Phillies both did an imposing job as they tied the two-game series 1-1. Marlins have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary
Win-Loss record.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 15: Florida Marlins 4 – Philadelphia Phillies 3
Marlins managed a 4-3 win in the first game, as Javier Vazquez was impressive with his pitching. He had one strike-out with an ERA of 7.43 in the Marlins convincing victory. Greg Dobbs was excited after this credible win as he said, “It feels good regardless
of who you're playing against. I heard a couple boos and a couple of cheers. I came in here to do my job and help the team.”
Logan Morrison had a memorable day with the bat as he went 2-or-4 with an average of .320 and hit one RBI including two runs. Chris Coghlan, Morrison and Gaby Sanchez each showed their contribution and added four runs collectively to give the Marlins a competitive
lead over the Phillies.
Conversely, Phillies’ batters contributed only three runs to keep themselves alive. Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino both added three runs jointly for the Phillies. Roy Oswalt pitched well for his team but that was not enough to earn a win for the Phillies.
He struck-out six batters on his 89 pitches. Oswalt permitted two runs, four hits, one walk, one home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 2.50.
Game 2 – April 17: Florida Marlins 2 – Philadelphia Phillies 3
In the second or final game of the series, Phillies outclassed the Marlins 3-2. Phillies’ starter, Cole Hamels threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered only two runs, seven hits, no home-run and two earned runs on his 101 pitches.
Hamels had seven strike-outs with an ERA of 4.32. He put in a brilliant performance and led from the front.
Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel said, “Anytime you win the game, it's good. Whether you win ugly or win beautiful, it's positive. It's always positive when you're winning. His stuff wasn't as quick as usual.”
Marlins’ Omar Infante and Mike Stanton were the only two players who scored two runs for their team. Anibal Sanchez had a shaky day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 5.51 and gave away six hits, two runs, four walks, one homer and two
earned runs on his 113 pitches. Sanchez struck-out eight batters on his respective innings pitched.
However, a group effort kept the Marlins and Phillies both on top throughout the two-game series.
