MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals level four-game series 2-all
National League’s Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals battled it out in a thrilling four-game series. Marlins were remarkable and did a significant job in this series but unfortunately, they were only able to tie the four-game series.
Let us take an overview of these interesting games and see how the Marlins and Cardinals fought it out.
Game 1 – May 2: Florida Marlins 6 – St. Louis Cardinals 5
Marlins directed a 6-5 win in the first game, as Chris Volstad was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective five innings with an ERA of 6.00 and allowed only two walks in the Marlins victory. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez said, “If we're
in a close game in the fifth or sixth inning, we know we have a very good chance.”
On the other hand, Cardinals’ batters were able to post only five runs right through the complete game. Kyle Lohse threw nicely for the Cardinals but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters during his 102
pitches and gave away five earned runs including six hits with an ERA of 2.44.
Game 2 – May 3: Florida Marlins 5 – St. Louis Cardinals 7
In the second game, Cardinals outclassed the Marlins 7-5 and levelled the four-game series 1-1. Cardinals’ starter, Kyle McClellan pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw five innings and allowed six hits with an ERA of 3.79. McClellan was able to
strike-out two batters on his 75 pitches and gave away two walks with four runs.
Marlins wavered with the bat and scored only five runs until the closing stages of the game. Anibal Sanchez had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 4.15 and surrendered six hits with three earned runs on his 103
pitches. Sanchez struck-out only two batters on his individual innings pitched.
Game 3 – May 4: Florida Marlins 8 – St. Louis Cardinals 7
During the third game of the series, Cardinals lost 8-7. Marlins’ right-fielder Mike Stanton shined as he struck two RBIs and went 1-for-5 with an average of .253.
Speaking to reporters, Stanton said, “I figured he was going to try to work off his slider, like last night. People can say he should have gone with what he did last night to get me out.”
Cardinals’ batters took only seven runs in this important game. Chris Carpenter pitched six innings and gave away 10 hits and three walks on his 110 pitches.
Game 4 – May 5: Florida Marlins 3 – St. Louis Cardinals 6
Cardinals won the series finale 6-3 as each player executed superbly in their respective departments. Cardinals’ starter, Jake Westbrook threw just over six innings with an ERA of 6.14 and struck-out eight batters. However, Marlins and Cardinals ended up
with the series levelled at 2-all.
