MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins beat Houston Astros 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Florida Marlins and Houston Astros battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Marlins did a tremendous job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Astros convincingly. Marlins have had a remarkable season so
far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the early spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 8: Florida Marlins 4 – Houston Astros 3
Marlins directed a 4-3 win in the first game, as Ricky Nolasco was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective eight innings with an ERA of 2.40 and struck-out two batters in the Marlins victory. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez said, “He was
very efficient. Everything was working for him, breaking ball, changeup, fastball was going 92 to 94. He did an outstanding job.”
On the other side, Astros’ batters were able to add only three runs right through the complete game. Wandy Rodriguez pitched well for the Astros but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out two batters during his 83 pitches
and gave away no walk, eight hits, one run, no home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 6.55.
Game 2 – April 9: Florida Marlins 7 – Houston Astros 5
In the second game, Marlins outclassed the Astros by 7-5. Marlins’ starter, Javier Vazquez pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw six innings and allowed eight hits with an ERA of 8.64. Vazquez struck-out only four batters on his
92 pitches.
Astros struggled with the bat and added just five runs until the end of the game. Bud Norris had an awful day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 8.10 and surrendered five hits with two walks on his 94 pitches. Norris struck-out only six
batters.
Game 3 – April 10: Florida Marlins 1 – Houston Astros 7
During the last game of the series, Marlins lost 7-1. Astros’ right-fielder Hunter Pence shined as he struck one RBI and went 3-for-5 with an average of .324. Astros’ manager, Brad Mill said, “A real good team win.”
Marlins’ batters yielded only one run in a series finale. Anibal Sanchez pitched just over four innings and gave away six runs, 13 hits, six earned runs and no walk on his 91 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Marlins the series win against
the struggling Astros. The Marlins looked strong in the early part of the regular season, as their offence performed brilliantly in their early series match-ups.
