MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins beat Washington Nationals 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Marlins put in an amazing performance as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Nationals convincingly. Marlins have had
a remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 5: Washington Nationals 2 – Florida Marlins 3
Marlins directed a 3-2 win in the first game, as Anibal Sanchez was incredible with his pitching. He threw his just over five respective innings with an ERA of 3.18 and struck-out seven batters in the Marlins victory. Florida’s manager, Edwin Rodriguez said,
“It seems like they're pressing. The right guys are at the plate. It's one of those slumps. I hope we can get back on track.”
On the other side, Nationals’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Jason Marquis pitched well for the Nationals but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out two batters during his 78 pitches
and gave away no walk, six hits, two runs, one home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 2.84.
Game 2 – April 6: Washington Nationals 4 – Florida Marlins 7
In the second game, Marlins outclassed the Nationals 7-4. Marlins’ starter, Chris Volstad pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw five innings and allowed four hits with an ERA of 1.80. Volstad struck-out only one batter on his 95
pitches.
Nationals’ manager Jim Riggleman said, “We just have to keep putting them out there and finish it off. With the energy and attitude on the bench, it pains them to have that happen the last couple nights.”
Nationals were shaky with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. Livan Hernandez had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched five innings with an ERA of 4.76 and surrendered six hits with five walks on his 97 pitches. Hernandez struck-out
only one batter.
Game 3 – April 7: Washington Nationals 5 – Florida Marlins 3
During last game of the series, Marlins lost 5-3. Nationals’ first baseman Adam LaRoche shined as he struck two RBIs and went 1-for-5 with an average of .167.
Marlins’ batters yielded only three runs in a series finale. Josh Johnson pitched six innings and gave away three runs, four hits, one earned run and no walk on his 94 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Marlins the series win against the
struggling Nationals.
