MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins defeat Atlanta Braves 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Florida Marlins and Atlanta Braves both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Marlins did an eye-catching job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Braves convincingly. Marlins have had a remarkable
season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 12: Florida Marlins 0 – Atlanta Braves 5
Braves directed a 5-0 win in the first game, as Tommy Hanson was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 3.38 and struck-out five batters in the Braves victory. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez said, “We've been
struggling pretty much all season with runners in scoring position and today wasn't any different.”
On the other side, Marlins’ batters were unable to add any run right through the complete game. Chris Volstad pitched well for the Marlins but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out three batters during his 82 pitches
and gave away two walks, eight hits, five runs, two home-runs and five earned runs with an ERA of 5.59.
Game 2 – April 13: Florida Marlins 5 – Atlanta Braves 1
In the second game, Marlins outclassed the Braves 5-1. Marlins’ starter, Josh Johnson pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over seven innings and allowed only one hit with an ERA of 1.35. Johnson struck-out nine batters during his 109 pitches.
Rodriguez said, “He's still getting better and better. We haven't seen the best of J.J. I think this year and next year and years to come, he's going to be the best pitcher in baseball.”
Braves were struggling with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Tim Hudson had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.48 and surrendered seven hits with two walks on his 82 pitches. Hudson struck-out
two batters and gave away just five earned runs.
Game 3 – April 14: Florida Marlins 6 – Atlanta Braves 5
During the last game of the series, Braves lost 6-5. Marlins’ short-stop Hanley Ramirez shined as he struck one RBI and went 3-for-3 with an average of .256. John Buck said, “Ricky showed a lot of heart. Ricky didn't have his plus stuff. He stepped up and
somehow got us into the fifth.”
Braves’ batters were able to yield five runs in the series finale. Brandon Beachy pitched just over five innings and gave away five runs, seven hits, five earned runs and one home-run on his 104 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Marlins
the series win against the struggling Braves.
