MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins defeat Colorado Rockies 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers fought hard in a rousing three game series. Marlins did an impressive job as they sealed a 3-0 victory in this series after defeating the Rockies convincingly. Marlins have had an extraordinary season
so far as they gave an exemplary performance during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 22: Colorado Rockies 1 – Florida Marlins 4
Marlins directed a 4-1 win in the first game, as Anibal Sanchez was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective nine innings with an ERA of 3.55 and struck-out nine batters in the Marlins victory. Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez said, “Anibal
has a very strong mental approach. After that first inning, it takes mental toughness to keep his composure, and he did a great job.”
On the other side, Rockies’ batters were able to add only one run right through the complete game. Jhoulys Chacin threw beautifully for the Rockies but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his
95 pitches and gave away three walks, seven hits, four runs, two home-runs and four earned runs with an ERA of 2.67.
Game 2 – April 23: Colorado Rockies 3 – Florida Marlins 1
In the second game, Rockies outclassed the Marlins 3-1. Rockies’ starter, Jason Hammel pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over six innings and allowed seven hits with an ERA of 3.80. Hammel was able to strike-out just four batters during
his 109 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Rodriguez said, “We just ran into some very good pitching. Hammel was mixing up his pitches and hitting his spots. He did a very good job.”
Marlins were uneven with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Javier Vazquez had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 6.52 and surrendered four hits with five walks on his 94 pitches. Vazquez struck-out
five batters and gave away three earned runs.
Game 3 – April 24: Colorado Rockies 3 – Florida Marlins 6
During the last game of the series, Rockies lost 6-3. Marlins’ right-fielder Mike Stanton shined as he struck three RBIs and went 1-for-3 with an average of .265.
Rockies’ batters were able to yield just three runs in the exciting series finale. Ubaldo Jimenez pitched five innings and gave away three runs, one hit, three earned runs and four walks on his 96 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Marlins a
series win against the struggling Rockies.
