MLB Season Review: Florida Marlins dominate Cincinnati Reds 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Florida Marlins and Cincinnati Reds faced each other in an exciting three-game series. Marlins were remarkable and did a significant job as they confirmed a 2-1 victory in the series after defeating the Reds comfortably.
Let us take a summary of these three games and see how the Marlins defeated the Reds.
Game 1 – April 29: Florida Marlins 7 – Cincinnati Reds 6
Marlins directed a 7-6 win in the first game, as Javier Vazquez was impressive with his pitching. He had three strike-outs with an ERA of 6.39 in the Marlins convincing victory. Hanley Ramirez said, “It's only the first month of the season. You can't let
it get in your head. People kept telling me not to worry, you can hit. We have five months to go plus the playoffs.”
Reds’ batters were able to contribute only six runs in the initial game. Travis Wood threw beautifully for the Reds but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters on his 91 pitches and permitted eight hits
with seven earned runs.
Game 2 – April 30: Florida Marlins 3 – Cincinnati Reds 4
During the second game, Reds outshined the Marlins 4-3. Reds’ starter, Edinson Volquez threw the ball accurately as he pitched five innings and surrendered just five walks and two hits on his 102 pitches. Volquez had four strike-outs with an ERA of 5.67.
Marlins’ manager, Edwin Rodriguez said, “The bullpen has been so reliable. Mujica and Webb got ahead in the count but couldn't put them away. We have to give them credit.”
Marlins were having a bad day with the bat as they were able to take only three runs until the end of the game. Josh Johnson had an average day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 0.88 and gave away five hits, no run, two walks, no homer
and zero earned run on his 117 pitches.
Game 3 – May 1: Florida Marlins 9 – Cincinnati Reds 5
During the final game of the series, Reds lost 5-9. Marlins’ third baseman Greg Dobbs shined as he completed three runs including one RBI and went 3-for-3 with an average of .372. Marlins’ starter, Ricky Nolasco pitched seven innings and allowed only six
hits and one walk including five strike-outs.
Reds were able to score only five runs in the series finale and failed to dominate the Marlins. Bronson Arroyo pitched seven innings and gave away five runs, seven hits, five earned runs and two walks on his 100 pitches. However, a tremendous group effort
allowed the Marlins to dominate the Reds throughout the series.
