MLB Season Review: Kansas City Royals beat Detroit Tigers 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Kansas City Royals and Detroit Tigers battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Royals did an eye-catching job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Tigers convincingly. Royals have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 8: Kansas City Royals 2 – Detroit Tigers 5
Tigers directed a 5-2 win in the first game, as Max Scherzer was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 5.73 and struck-out three batters in the Tigers victory. Speaking to reporters, Scherzer said, “I think that's
the easiest way to become a fan favourite. How many Victor Martinez jerseys did you just sell?”
On the other side, Royals’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Kyle Davies pitched well for the Royals but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out three batters during his 92 pitches and
gave away five walks, six hits, five runs, no home-run and five earned runs with an ERA of 9.00.
Game 2 – April 9: Kansas City Royals 3 – Detroit Tigers 1
In the second game, Royals outclassed the Tigers 3-1. Royals’ starter, Bruce Chen pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw six innings and allowed three hits with an ERA of 4.09. Chen struck-out seven batters during his 82 pitches.
Chen said, “That was a huge play. I felt like I pitched well, but my defence has been great.”
Tigers were shaky with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Phil Coke had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 4.00 and surrendered three hits with four walks on his 91 pitches. Coke struck-out
seven batters.
Game 3 – April 10: Kansas City Royals 9 – Detroit Tigers 5
During last game of the series, Tigers lost 9-5. Royals’ third baseman Wilson Betemit shined as he smashed one RBI and went 4-for-4 with an average of .381. Betemit said, “That was a great day -- not only for me. The team played really hard. We're starting
good right now.”
Tigers’ batters yielded only five runs in the series decider. Rick Porcello pitched five innings and gave away five runs, nine hits, five earned runs and three walks on his 97 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort gave the Royals the series win against
the inconsistent Tigers.
