MLB Season Review: Kansas City Royals beat Seattle Mariners 3-1 in four-game series
American League’s Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals battled it out in a thrilling four game series. Royals did a noticeable job as they sealed a 3-1 victory in this series after defeating the Mariners convincingly. Royals have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record in the early part of the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 14: Seattle Mariners 1 – Kansas City Royals 5
Royals directed a 5-1 win in the first game, as Bruce Chen was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective eight innings with an ERA of 2.37 and struck-out only one batter in the Royals victory. Mariners’ manager, Eric Wedge said, “They said it
was going to [rain] about 8 to 8:30 and it did. We were still able to get deep in the ballgame.”
On the other side, Mariners’ batters were able to add only one run right through the complete game. Doug Fister pitched well for the Mariners but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just five batters during his 106 pitches
and gave away one walk including eight hits with an ERA of 3.86.
Game 2 – April 15: Seattle Mariners 5 – Kansas City Royals 6
In the second game, Royals outclassed the Mariners 6-5. Royals’ starter, Luke Hochevar pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw seven innings and allowed one hit with an ERA of 4.21. Hochevar struck-out only four batters on his 100
pitches and gave away two walks with one earned run.
Mariners were shaky with the bat and added just five runs until the end of the game. Erik Bedard had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 8.56 and surrendered seven hits with four earned runs on his 106 pitches.
Bedard had six strike-outs on his respective pitches.
Game 3 – April 16: Seattle Mariners 0 – Kansas City Royals 7
During third game of the series, Mariners lost 7-0. Royals’ left-fielder Alex Gordon shined as he struck two RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .373.
Mariners yielded no run in this crucial game. Felix Hernandez pitched five innings and gave away five runs, six hits, two earned runs and two walks on his 90 pitches.
Game 4 – April 17: Seattle Mariners 3 – Kansas City Royals 2
Mariners won the series finale 3-2 as each player executed particularly well in their respective disciplines. Michael Pineda threw his six innings with an ERA of 2.33 and struck-out five batters. However, a team effort gave the Royals the series win against
the struggling Mariners.
