MLB Season Review: Kansas City Royals dominate Baltimore Orioles 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Baltimore Orioles and Kansas City Royals fought it out in a thrilling three-game series. Royals were extraordinary and did a noteworthy job as they completed a 2-1 victory in the series after beating the Orioles comfortably.
Let us take a rundown of these three games and see how the Royals dominated the Orioles.
Game 1 – May 3: Baltimore Orioles 5 – Kansas City Royals 6
Royals managed a 6-5 win in the series starter, as Jeff Francis was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 5.45 in the Royals convincing victory. Jeff Francoeur said, “I'll take that any day of the week for a walkoff. I beat
up on people pretty good after walkoffs. I got beat up pretty good tonight. I went to the fetal position.”
Orioles’ batters were able to put in only five runs in the opening game. Brad Bergesen threw beautifully for the Orioles but that was not adequate to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters on his 94 pitches and permitted six
hits with three earned runs.
Game 2 – May 4: Baltimore Orioles 3 – Kansas City Royals 2
During the second game, Orioles defeated the Royals 3-2. Orioles’ starter, Jake Arrieta threw the ball in good line as he pitched seven innings and surrendered two walks and three hits on his 105 pitches. Arrieta had eight strike-outs with an ERA of 4.35.
Adam Jones said, “I know the ground rules of all the stadiums we play in because situations like that, they happen few and far between, but they happen. I know the ground rules here.”
Royals struggled with the bat and were able to take only two runs until the end of the game. Kyle Davies had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over six innings with an ERA of 7.32 and gave away seven hits and three runs with three strike-outs on
his 107 pitches.
Game 3 – May 5: Baltimore Orioles 1 – Kansas City Royals 9
During the final game of the series, Orioles lost 9-1. Royals’ centre-fielder Melky Cabrera shined as he struck four RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .293. Royals’ starter, Bruce Chen pitched seven innings and allowed only one run and five hits including
five strike-outs.
Orioles were able to score only one run in the series finale and failed to take over the Royals. Orioles’ starter, Chris Tillman pitched just over three innings and gave away eight runs, 10 hits, eight earned runs and one walk on his 79 pitches. However,
a group effort kept the Royals on top against the Baltimore Orioles throughout the series.
