MLB Season Review: Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox level four-game series 2-all
American League’s Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox fought it out in an exciting four-game series. Angels were remarkable and did a significant job in this series but unfortunately, they were able to tie the four-game series.
Let us take an overview of these interesting games and see how the Angels and Red Sox dominated each other.
Game 1 – May 2: Los Angeles Angels 5 – Boston Red Sox 9
Red Sox directed a 9-5 win in the first game, as Clay Buchholz was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over six respective innings with an ERA of 4.81 and struck-out two batters in the Red Sox victory. Red Sox’ manager, Terry Francona said, “He has
a way of doing that. He fights. He doesn't give in.”
On the other hand, Angels’ batters were able to score only five runs right through the complete game. Jered Weaver threw nicely for the Angels but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only six batters during his 118 pitches
and gave away three earned runs including six hits with an ERA of 1.39.
Game 2 – May 3: Los Angeles Angels 3 – Boston Red Sox 7
In the second game, Red Sox outclassed the Angels 7-3 and led the four-game series 2-0. Red Sox starter, Jon Lester pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw seven innings and allowed six hits with an ERA of 2.33. Lester was able to strike-out 11 batters
on his 93 pitches and gave away one walk with one run.
Angels wavered with the bat and added only three runs until the ending of the game. Dan Haren had an average day with the ball as he pitched seven innings with an ERA of 1.76 and surrendered nine hits with four earned runs on his 108 pitches. Haren struck-out
only eight batters on his individual innings pitched.
Game 3 – May 4: Los Angeles Angels 5 – Boston Red Sox 3
During the third game of the series, Red Sox lost 5-3. Angels’ left-fielder Vernon Wells shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-6 with an average of .184.
Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia said, “It was a game where there could have been some letdown, but the guys hung in there and came out in the end.”
Red Sox batters took only three runs in this important game. Josh Beckett pitched just over four innings and gave away one hit and three walks on his 68 pitches.
Game 4 – May 5: Los Angeles Angels 11 – Boston Red Sox 0
Angels won the series finale 11-0 as each player executed superbly in their respective departments. Angels’ starter, Joel Pineiro threw just over five innings with an ERA of 0.71 and struck-out two batters. However, the Angels and Red Sox balanced each other
out as they managed to level the series at 2-all.
