MLB Season Review: Los Angeles Angels dominate Tampa Bay Rays 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays battled it out in a thrilling three-game series. Angels were remarkable and did a significant job as they confirmed a 2-1 victory in the series after defeating the Rays comfortably.
Let us take a summary of these three games and see how the Angels beat the Rays.
Game 1 – April 29: Los Angeles Angels 8 – Tampa Bay Rays 5
Angels directed an 8-5 win in the first game, as Ervin Santana was impressive with his pitching. He had five strike-outs with an ERA of 4.89 in the Angels convincing victory. Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia said, “This guy is one of the aces of our league
and I thought we did a good job. Good at-bats. When he missed with some pitches, we squared him up.”
Rays’ batters were able to contribute only five runs in the initial game. David Price threw beautifully for the Rays but that was not enough to secure a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters on his 98 pitches and permitted 12 hits
with five earned runs.
Game 2 – April 30: Los Angeles Angels 1 – Tampa Bay Rays 2
During the second game, Rays outshined the Angels 2-1. Rays’ starter, James Shields threw the ball in good line as he pitched eight innings and surrendered just one walk and six hits on his 109 pitches. Shields had 12 strike-outs with an ERA of 2.14.
Angels struggled with the bat and were able to take only one run until the end of the game. Joel Pineiro had a shaky day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 1.29 and gave away four hits, one run, one walk, one homer and one earned run
on his 83 pitches.
Game 3 – May 1: Los Angeles Angels 6 – Tampa Bay Rays 5
During the final game of the series, Rays lost 6-5. Angels’ designated hitter Bobby Abreu shined as he completed one run including one RBI and went 2-for-3 with an average of .271. Angels’ starter, Tyler Chatwood pitched four innings and allowed only nine
hits and two walks including three strike-outs.
Scioscia said, “He had some IVs put in, and I think one more day of getting fluids in him and he should be good to go.”
Rays were able to score only five runs in the series finale and failed to dominate the Angels. Alex Cobb pitched just over four innings and gave away four runs, four hits, four earned runs and four walks on his 74 pitches. However, a decent group effort
allowed the Angels to dominate the Rays throughout the series.
