MLB Season Review: Los Angeles Angels rout Oakland Athletics 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels both were vigorous after completing their 2011 season in style. The Angels were amazing and did a perceptible job as they completed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Athletics.
Let us take an overview and see how the Angels beat the Athletics in this exciting series.
Game 1 – April 25: Oakland Athletics 0 – Los Angeles Angels 5
Angels directed a 5-0 win in the first game, as Jered Weaver was impressive with his pitching. He had 10 strike-outs with an ERA of 0.99 in the Angels convincing victory. Weaver said, “Obviously, we didn't do what we wanted to do against Boston, but our
boys came to play tonight and were able to get me a couple of runs early off a great pitcher.”
Conversely, Athletics’ batters were unable to contribute any run in the entire game. Gio Gonzalez threw beautifully for the Athletics but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only five batters on his 95 pitches and permitted
eight hits with four earned runs.
Game 2 – April 26: Oakland Athletics 3 – Los Angeles Angels 8
During the second game, Angels outshined the Athletics 8-3. Angels’ starter, Tyler Chatwood threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over five innings and surrendered just three runs and three earned runs with five hits on his 93 pitches. Chatwood
had only one strike-out with an ERA of 3.86.
Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia said, “Alexi's a player of smaller stature, but he's always played big. He played in a very tough Venezuelan Winter League the last couple of years.”
Athletics were helpless with the bat and scored just three runs until the end of the game. Brandon McCarthy had an average day with the ball as he threw just over five innings with an ERA of 3.57 and gave away 14 hits, seven runs, one walk, no homer and
seven earned runs on his 104 pitches.
Game 3 – April 27: Oakland Athletics 2 – Los Angeles Angels 1
During the final game of the series, Angels lost 2-1. Athletics’ short-stop Cliff Pennington shined as he completed one run including no RBI and went 1-for-4 with an average of .236. Athletics’ manager, Bob Geren said, “They got a break to tie the game and
we got a break to win the game.”
Angels were able to post only a single run in the last game. Dan Haren pitched seven innings and gave away one run, three hits, no earned run and two walks on his 111 pitches. However, a team effort kept the Angels on peak against the inconsistent Athletics
throughout the series.
