MLB Season Review: Los Angeles Angels sweep Tampa Bay Rays 2-0
American League’s Los Angeles Angels and Tampa Bay Rays both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Angels did an imposing job as they brushed aside the Rays 2-0 in this series. Angels had an amazing season as they got an exemplary Win-Loss
record during the season this year.
Let us take an overview.
Game 1 – April 5: Los Angeles Angels 5 – Tampa Bay Rays 3
Angels managed a 5-3 win in the first game, as Jered Weaver was impressive with his pitching. He had six strike-outs with an ERA of 0.69 in the Angels convincing victory. Angels’ manager, Mike Scioscia was excited after this credible win as he said, “Jered
did what you want a guy to do, continue to the pound the zone. Make your pitches. It's good to nail those down. Jordan has a clean ninth. I think he's confident.”
Torii Hunter had a memorable day with the bat as he went 2-for-4 with an average of .261 and hit two RBIs including one run. Bobby Abreu, Hunter and Hank Conger each added three runs collectively while Howard Kendrick posted individual two runs to add five
competitive runs for the Angels.
Conversely, Rays’ batters contributed three runs to keep themselves alive. Ben Zobrist, B.J. Upton and Sean Rodriguez each added three runs for the Rays. Jeff Niemann pitched well for the Rays but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He struck-out
four batters on his 91 pitches. Niemann permitted five runs, nine hits, one walk, one home-run and five earned runs with an ERA of 7.50.
Game 2 – April 6: Los Angeles Angels 5 – Tampa Bay Rays 1
In the second or final game of the series, Angels outclassed the Rays 5-1. Angels’ starter, Dan Haren threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over seven innings and surrendered only one run, four hits, one home-run and one earned run on his 110 pitches.
Angels had six strike-outs with an ERA of 1.23.
Manny Ramirez said, “They've pitched better than us and they're hitting better than us right now. That's part of the game. Whoever plays better is the one that's going to win.”
Rays’ centre-fielder Upton was the only player who scored one run for his team by hitting a solo homer towards left-field. Jeremy Hellickson had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just over five innings with an ERA of 4.76 and gave away six hits, three
runs, two walks, one homer and three earned runs on his 99 pitches. Hellickson struck-out 10 batters on his respective pitched innings.
However, a magnificent group effort kept the Angels on top and they swept the Rays comfortably.
