MLB Season Review: Los Angeles Dodgers defeat Chicago Cubs 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Dodgers did an impressive job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after beating the Cubs convincingly. Dodgers have had a remarkable season so
far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief outline of these inspirational games:
Game 1 – April 22: Los Angeles Dodgers 12 – Chicago Cubs 2
Dodgers directed a 12-2 win in the first game, as Chad Billingsley was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over six respective innings with an ERA of 4.13 and struck-out three batters in the Dodgers victory. Speaking to reporters, Billingsley said,
“We're concentrating on what we have to do. What it takes for each game to get ready. That's the only thing we can control.”
On the other side, Cubs’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Casey Coleman pitched well for the Cubs but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during his 90 pitches
and gave away four walks, six hits, six runs, no home-run and six earned runs with an ERA of 7.43.
Game 2 – April 23: Los Angeles Dodgers 8 – Chicago Cubs 10
In the second game, Cubs outclassed the Dodgers 10-8. Cubs’ starter, Ryan Dempster pitched the ball accurately as he threw just over five innings and allowed nine hits with an ERA of 7.63. Dempster was able to strike-out just three batters during his 103
pitches.
Cubs’ manager, Mike Quade said, “I just settled in and said ‘I've stayed out of the way to this point, I think I'll stay out of the way and let this kid have this at-bat,’”
Dodgers were uneven with the bat and added just eight runs until the end of the game. Ted Lilly had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 5.13 and surrendered 11 hits with one walk on his 89 pitches. Lilly only
struck-out three batters and gave away five earned runs.
Game 3 – April 24: Los Angeles Dodgers 7 – Chicago Cubs 3
During the last game of the series, Cubs lost 7-3. Dodgers’ centre-fielder Matt Kemp shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-5 with an average of .402.
Cubs’ batters were able to yield only three runs in the series finale. Carlos Zambrano pitched five innings and gave away six runs, eight hits, six earned runs and no home-run on his 85 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Dodgers the series win
against the struggling Cubs.
