MLB Season Review: Milwaukee Brewers defeat Chicago Cubs 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs both went head-to-head in an exciting three game series. Brewers did an amazing job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Cubs convincingly. Brewers have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record early during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 8: Chicago Cubs 7 – Milwaukee Brewers 4
Cubs directed a 7-4 win in the first game, as Carlos Zambrano was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 5.25 and struck-out five batters in the Cubs victory. Speaking to reporters, Zambrano said, “Sometimes, I get
lucky. Like today, I gave up four runs, but still won the game.”
On the other side, Brewers’ batters were able to add only four runs right throughout the game. Randy Wolf pitched well for the Brewers but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only five batters during his 100 pitches
and gave away one walk, nine hits, six runs, two home-runs and two earned runs with an ERA of 7.20.
Game 2 – April 9: Chicago Cubs 0 – Milwaukee Brewers 6
In the second game, Brewers outclassed the Cubs 6-0. Brewers’ starter, Chris Narveson pitched the ball accurately as he threw seven innings and allowed six hits with an ERA of 0.00. Narveson struck-out nine batters during his 96 pitches.
Cubs were shaky with the bat and did not add a run until the end of the game. Matt Garza had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over five innings with an ERA of 5.68 and surrendered eight hits with three walks on his 107 pitches. Garza struck-out
eight batters and gave away just five earned runs.
Game 3 – April 10: Chicago Cubs 5 – Milwaukee Brewers 6
During the last game of the series, Cubs lost 6-5. Brewers’ first baseman Prince Fielder shined as he struck two RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .400. Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke said, “I put him up there because I felt like he could do it. I
don't think all the time you look at exactly what a guy's doing during that time.”
Cubs’ batters were able to yield only five runs in the series finale. Casey Coleman pitched five innings and gave away four runs, nine hits, four earned runs and one walk on his 81 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Brewers the series win
against the struggling Cubs to start the regular season off with some confidence.
