MLB Season Review: Milwaukee Brewers defeat Houston Astros 2-1 in three-game series
Two of the National League’s thrilling teams, the Houston Astros and Milwaukee Brewers were aggressive after finishing their spring training season in style. Brewers were on top and did an obvious job as they confirmed a 2-1 victory in this series after
defeating the Astros comfortably.
Let us take an overview of how the Brewers beat the Astros.
Game 1 – April 22: Houston Astros 7 – Milwaukee Brewers 14
Brewers directed a 14-7 win in the first game, as Yovani Gallardo was impressive with his pitching. He had seven strike-outs with an ERA of 4.88 in the Brewers convincing victory. Ryan Braun said, “I really don't think I could've scripted it much better,
it was pretty cool. Definitely a special night for me individually and a great night for us as a team. A lot of guys contributed.”
On the other side, the Astros’ batters were able to contribute only seven runs in the entire game. Nelson Figueroa pitched well for the Astros but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters on his 85 pitches
and permitted six hits with six earned runs.
Game 2 – April 23: Houston Astros 9 – Milwaukee Brewers 6
In the second game, Astros outshined the Brewers 9-6. Astros’ starter, Brett Myers threw the ball accurately as he pitched just over six innings and surrendered just five runs and five earned runs with 10 hits on his 112 pitches. Myers had four strike-outs
with an ERA of 3.31.
Astros’ manager, Brad Mills said, “The way he battled through and pitched both those innings, and you can't say enough about his first major league hit, either.”
Brewers were shaky with the bat and scored only six runs until the end of the game. Shaun Marcum struggled with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 2.73 and gave away seven hits, four runs, one walk, two homers and four earned runs on his 96
pitches.
Game 3 – April 24: Houston Astros 1 – Milwaukee Brewers 4
During the final game of the series, the Astros lost 4-1. Brewers’ centre-fielder Carlos Gomez shined as he completed one run including no RBI and went 3-for-5 with an average of .247.
Astros were able to post only one run in the last game of the series. Wandy Rodriguez pitched seven innings and gave away four runs, 10 hits, four earned runs and three walks on his 126 pitches. However, an impressive team effort kept the Brewers on top
against the struggling Astros throughout the series. The Brewers managed to dominate the Astros’ offence as they did not allow them to claw their way back in the game.
