MLB Season Review: Milwaukee Brewers sweep Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0
National League’s Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates both battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Milwaukee did an imposing job as they brushed aside the Pirates 2-0 in this series. Brewers have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary
Win-Loss record during spring training season this year.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 13: Milwaukee Brewers 6 – Pittsburgh Pirates 0
Brewers managed a 6-0 win in the first game, as Shaun Marcum was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 2.55 in the Brewers convincing victory. Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke was excited after this credible win as he said, “Very
pleased. He moved his ball around well, changed speeds, he's cutting it and he's sinking it, and he knows when to throw the pitches is the thing.”
Prince Fielder had a memorable day with the bat as he went 1-or-4 with an average of .385 and hit three RBIs including one run. Ryan Braun, Fielder, Nyjer Morgan, Yuniesky Betancourt, Jonathan Lucroy and Marcum each showed their contribution and added six
runs collectively to give the Brewers a competitive lead over the Pirates.
Conversely, Pirates’ batters did not contribute any runs right through the complete game. The batters struggled and did not find any place to take runs. Kevin Correia pitched well for his team but that was not enough to earn a win for the Pirates. He struck-out
only one batter on his 78 pitches. Correia permitted six runs, five hits, two walks, one home-run and four earned runs with an ERA of 2.70.
Game 2 – April 14: Milwaukee Brewers 4 – Pittsburgh Pirates 1
In the second or final game of the series, Brewers outclassed the Pirates 4-1. Brewers’ starter, Randy Wolf threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over six innings and surrendered only three hits and two walks on his 107 pitches. Wolf had 10 strike-outs
with an ERA of 4.32.
Wolf said, “You feel like you want to contribute and help this team, and it feels good finally to be able to do that.”
Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen was the only player who scored a single run for his team. Paul Maholm had a shaky day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 2.33 and gave away four hits, two runs, three walks, no homer and two earned runs on his
98 pitches. Maholm struck-out six batters in his respective innings pitched. He managed to put in a decent performance for his team.
However, a tremendous group effort kept the Brewers on top and they swept the Pirates comfortably.
