MLB Season Review: Minnesota Twins sweep Chicago White Sox 2-0 in two-game series
American League’s Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins fought it out in a thrilling two-game series. Twins were extraordinary and did a noteworthy job as they completed a 2-0 victory in the series after crushing the White Sox comfortably.
Let us take a rundown of these two games and see how the Twins subjugated the White Sox.
Game 1 – May 3: Minnesota Twins 1 – Chicago White Sox 0
Twins managed a 1-0 win in the first game, as Francisco Liriano was impressive with his pitching. He had two strike-outs with an ERA of 6.61 in the Twins convincing victory. Twins’ short-stop Matt Tolbert was excited after this credible win as he said, “I
was excited and a little nervous. It's not every day that you get to play behind a no-hitter. I was thinking somehow we had to get this guy [Dunn] out. I know he's so dangerous.”
Jason Kubel had a memorable day with the bat as he went 1-or-4 with an average of .350 and hit one RBI including one run. Denard Span, Justin Morneau, Danny Valencia, Michael Cuddyer and Drew Butera each showed their contribution and gave the Twins a competitive
lead over the White Sox.
Conversely, White Sox batters did not contributed any runs right through the complete game. The batters battled it out nicely but did not find much space to take costly runs. Edwin Jackson pitched well for his team but that was not enough to steal a win
for the White Sox. He struck-out two batters on his 107 pitches. Jackson permitted one run, six hits, one walk, one home-run and one earned run with an ERA of 4.98.
Game 2 – May 4: Minnesota Twins 3 – Chicago White Sox 2
In the second or final game of the series, Twins again hammered the White Sox 3-2. Twins’ starter, Nick Blackburn threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over six innings and surrendered only four hits and one run on his 107 pitches. Blackburn had
only one strike-out with an ERA of 4.41.
Speaking to reporters, Blackburn said, “Not pumped about the walks, but I threw a threw a lot of close pitches that could have gone either way. I wasn't all over the place. I don't think my control was as bad as it sounds.”
White Sox Alexei Ramirez and Alex Rios were the only two players who scored runs for their team. John Danks had a shaky day with the ball as he threw eight innings with an ERA of 3.83 and gave away eight hits, three runs, three walks, no homer and three
earned runs on his 106 pitches. Danks failed to strike-out any batter on his respective innings pitched.
However, Twins had momentum and were on top till the final game as they sealed a series victory.
