MLB Season Review: New York Mets dominate Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers battled it out in an exciting three-game series. Mets were amazing and did an outstanding job as they completed a 2-1 victory in the series after thrashing the Dodgers comfortably.
Let us capture an overview of these games and see how the Mets dominated the Dodgers.
Game 1 – May 6: Los Angeles Dodgers 3 – New York Mets 6
Mets managed a 6-3 win in the series starter, as Jonathon Niese was impressive with his pitching. He had only five strike-outs with an ERA of 4.71 in the Mets convincing victory. Jason Pridie said, “I'm not insulted, obviously. But after I saw him walking,
I sort of got into that competitive mode and really said to myself, 'I'm doing this.”
Dodgers were able to score only three runs in the opening game. Hiroki Kuroda threw beautifully for the Dodgers but that was not adequate to secure a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters on his 89 pitches and permitted seven hits
with five earned runs.
Game 2 – May 7: Los Angeles Dodgers 2 – New York Mets 4
During the second game, Mets defeated the Dodgers 4-2. Mets’ starter, Dillon Gee threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over five innings and surrendered three walks and seven hits on his 89 pitches. Gee had three strike-outs with an ERA of 3.80.
Justin Turner said, “It felt good to get a fastball and not miss it. Lucky for me, it hit off the tip of his glove.”
Dodgers struggled with the bat and were able to yield only two runs until the end of the game. Jon Garland had a shaky day with the ball as he threw just six innings with an ERA of 3.66 and gave away seven hits and two runs with three strike-outs on his
91 pitches.
Game 3 – May 8: Los Angeles Dodgers 4 – New York Mets 2
During the final game of the series, Mets lost 4-2. Dodgers’ right-fielder Andre Ethier shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .371. Dodgers’ starter, Clayton Kershaw pitched just over six innings and allowed three walks and six
hits including eight strike-outs.
Ethier said, “It's a good way to get it going again, to get the win and get things righted a bit. The last eight games have been tough for us.”
Mets were able to contribute just two runs in the series climax and failed to take over the Dodgers completely. Mets’ starter, R.A. Dickey pitched seven innings and gave away four runs, 10 hits and three earned runs including three strike-outs on his 108
pitches. However, a collective effort kept the Mets on top against the struggling Dodgers throughout the series.
