MLB Season Review: New York Mets sweep Arizona Diamondbacks 3-0
National League’s Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets both fought well in a thrilling three game series. Mets did a noticeable job as they sealed a 3-0 victory in this series after defeating the Diamondbacks convincingly. Mets have had an extraordinary
season so far as they got an exemplary Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 22: Arizona Diamondbacks 1 – New York Mets 4
Mets directed a 4-1 win in the first game, as Mike Pelfrey was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 7.23 in the Mets convincing victory. Ike Davis said, "In my two at-bats against him he didn't throw a ball over the corner
of the plate. He was just corner to corner to corner. When a pitcher does that you got to tip your cap."
On the other side, Diamondbacks’ batters were able to add only one run in the complete game. Joe Saunders pitched well for the Diamondbacks but that was not enough to grab a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters on his 104 pitches
and permitted two hits with one earned run.
Game 2 – April 23: Arizona Diamondbacks 4 – New York Mets 6
In the second game, Mets outclassed the Diamondbacks 6-4. Mets’ starter, Dillon Gee threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just five hits and one walk with two earned runs on his 93 pitches. Gee had just five strike-outs with
an ERA of 2.31.
Jason Bay said, “All of a sudden we're getting some timely hits. We're getting some good pitching at the back end of ballgames. There's a lot of reason to be optimistic.”
Diamondbacks struggled with the bat and added four runs until the end of the game. Barry Enright had a bad day with the ball as he threw just over five innings with an ERA of 6.65 and gave away 12 hits, five runs, one walk, two homers and five earned runs
on his 106 pitches.
Game 3 – April 24: Arizona Diamondbacks 4 – New York Mets 8
During the final game of the series, Diamondbacks lost 8-4. Mets’ third baseman David Wright shined as he completed three runs including three RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .262.
Diamondbacks’ batters were able to add four runs in this last game of the series. Armando Galarraga pitched three innings and gave away six runs, four hits, two earned runs and four walks on his 79 pitches. However, a decent team effort kept the Mets on
top against the Diamondbacks throughout the series.
