MLB Season Review: New York Yankees’ first shutout against Texas Rangers in 2011 season
The New York Yankees had come from a commanding 3-1 series win over the Cleveland Indians, but their next competition was with the strong Texas Rangers. Since the start of the 2011 regular season, it was the third series between the two. The Yankees were
successful in the first two series each with a 2-1 score. Now the wounded Rangers had travelled to New York with a new plan.
Not a single one of their plans worked against the powerful Yankees. The Bronx Bombers white washed the league rivals putting in a tremendous performance. It was the start of their new life in the 2011 regular season.
Game 1: Yankees overcome Rangers 12-4 in first outing
In the series-starter at Yankee Stadium on June 14, the Yankees’ batting crushed the opposing pitchers to get the club into their fourth win in the five days. Bronx Bombers humiliated the Rangers 12-4 to prove their dominance.
It was another collective showdown by the Yankees’ batting camp. Except Adam Jones, Ramiro Pena and Francisco Cervelli, each of the Yankees bat touched the ball at least once. Left-fielder Brett Gardner went 3-for-4 to add an RBI while Curtis Granderson,
who was given chance in the top of the rotation, acted as per the expectations of the manager Joe Girardi touching two hits and adding four RBIs.
Sabathia was shaky in his seven innings but despite allowing eight hits and four runs, managed to get his eighth win with a 3.28 ERA in the 2011 season.
Game 2: Another 12-4 victory on back-to-back nights
The same impetus, the same hitting and the same effort were seen on June 15, when the Rangers had to face their second straight loss and eighth sixth overall in eight outings against the Yankees.
The American League Eastern franchise, New York Yankees’ batting launched five home-runs and scored 12 runs to overcome the Rangers again with a 12-4 score. Mark Teixeira hammered two two-run homers while Eric Nunez, Ramiro Pena and Robinson Cano each launched
single home-runs.
Girardi did not say more than four words. "Just great at-bats."
Teixeira joined Curtis Granderson with his 20th home-run of the season and it was the fourth time the Yankees had two players with more than 20 home-runs over the first 70 games in a single season.
Game 3: Texas Rangers resist but fail to save series
Rangers’ C.J. Wilson and the Yankees’ Brian Gordon displayed an electrifying competition to create a heated last outing. He allowed two runs on just over five innings while Wilson tossed eight innings to receive the same numbers.
A thrilling competition extended to 12 innings. Yankees’ Brett Gardner singled to the right side allowing Curtis Granderson to score a game leading run. With a 3-2 lead in the top, Cory Wade tossed a hitless bottom and snatched his first and the club’s 3-0
win against the Rangers in the 2011 season.
Gordon did not have a good day like this before as the Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman commented in an answer to a question. "Hey, they got Cliff Lee, I got Brian Gordon."
This win had added new momentum in the Yankees’ bullpen, which now have to travel to Illinois to take of the Chicago Cubs in a three game series.
