MLB Season Review: Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners level four-game series 2-all
American League’s Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners both fought it out in an exciting four game series. Athletics and Mariners both did a striking job as they levelled the four-game series 2-all. Both teams have had an astounding season as they got
an ideal Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief outline of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 21: Oakland Athletics 0 – Seattle Mariners 1
Mariners directed a 1-0 win in the first game, as Felix Hernandez was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over seven respective innings with an ERA of 3.38 and struck-out eight batters in the Mariners victory. Speaking to reporters, Hernandez said,
“I was making great pitches. I was on it all night. I make good pitches, they give me one run, and we win.”
Athletics’ batters were unable to add any run right through the complete game. Brandon McCarthy threw superbly for the Athletics but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just six batters during his 99 pitches and gave
away one run including four hits with an ERA of 2.10.
Game 2 – April 22: Oakland Athletics 0 – Seattle Mariners 4
In the second game, Mariners again outclassed the Athletics 4-0. Mariners’ starter, Michael Pineda pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he pitched six innings and allowed five hits with an ERA of 1.78. Pineda struck-out five batters on
his 97 pitches and gave away two walks with no earned run.
Athletics were shaky with the bat once again and did not add any runs until the end of the game. Tyson Ross had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 4.82 and surrendered four hits with four walks on his 76 pitches.
Ross was unable to strike-out any batter on his respective pitches.
Game 3 – April 23: Oakland Athletics 9 – Seattle Mariners 1
During the third game of the series, Mariners lost 9-1. Athletics’ centre-fielder Coco Crisp shined as he struck two RBIs and went 3-for-5 with an average of .238.
Mariners yielded only one run in this crucial game. Trevor Cahill pitched six innings and gave away one run, seven hits, one earned run and one walk on his 100 pitches. Cliff Pennington said, “It's fun because we're next to each other the whole game. When
we're both getting hits, we talk to each other.”
Game 4 – April 24: Oakland Athletics 5 – Seattle Mariners 2
Athletics won the series finale 5-2 as each player executed particularly well in their respective disciplines. Brett Anderson threw his seven innings with an ERA of 1.56 and struck-out six batters. However, a group effort kept the Mariners and Athletics
both on top throughout the four-game series.
