MLB Season Review: Oakland Athletics beat Minnesota Twins 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics both battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Athletics did a wonderful job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Twins convincingly. Oakland has had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during early spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 8: Oakland Athletics 1 – Minnesota Twins 2
Twins directed a 2-1 win in the first game, as Carl Pavano was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective eight innings with an ERA of 6.00 and struck-out one batter in the Twins victory.
On the other side, Athletics’ batters were able to add just one run right throughout the entire game. Brett Anderson pitched well for the Athletics but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out five batters during his 109
pitches and gave away no walk, eight hits, two runs, no home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 1.93.
Game 2 – April 9: Oakland Athletics 1 – Minnesota Twins 0
In the second game, Athletics outclassed the Twins 1-0. Athletics’ starter, Gio Gonzalez pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw six innings and allowed four hits with an ERA of 0.69. Gonzalez struck-out four batters on his 106 pitches. He put in a
brilliant pitching performance to help guide his team.
Twins’ manager, Ron Gardenhire said, “We have a lot of run-producers that are supposed to be driving the ball for us. It's kind of a team thing. It's not an individual thing.”
Twins remained shaky with the bat and were unable to post any runs in the game. Nick Blackburn struggled with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 0.77 and surrendered six hits, one run, no earned run, three walks and no home-run on his 106
pitches.
Game 3 – April 10: Oakland Athletics 5 – Minnesota Twins 3
During last game of the series, Twins lost 5-3. Athletics’ designated hitter Hideki Matsui shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-4 with an average of .207. Speaking to interpreter, Matsui said, “I'm just happy to get one. And we won the game, as well.”
Matsui put in a tremendous effort as he managed to guide the team and dominate early.
Twins’ batters scored just three runs in the series finale. Scott Baker pitched five innings and gave away four runs, seven hits, four earned runs and two walks on his 99 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Athletics the series win against the
struggling Twins.
