MLB Season Review: Oakland Athletics beat Texas Rangers 3-1 in four-game series
American League’s Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers fought it out in an exciting four-game series. Athletics were remarkable and did a significant job as they confirmed a 3-1 victory in the series after defeating the Rangers comfortably.
Let us take a summary of these four games and see how the Athletics dominated the Rangers.
Game 1 – April 29: Texas Rangers 1 – Oakland Athletics 3
Athletics directed a 3-1 win in the first game, as Trevor Cahill was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 1.88 and struck-out four batters in the Athletics victory. Speaking to reporters, Cahill said, “Walking
three guys in the first inning put things in perspective: I just started pounding the zone a little bit more.”
On the other hand, Rangers’ batters were able to score only one run right through the complete game. C.J. Wilson threw nicely for the Rangers but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters during his 117
pitches and gave away two earned runs including nine hits with an ERA of 3.35.
Game 2 – April 30: Texas Rangers 11 – Oakland Athletics 2
In the second game, Rangers outclassed the Athletics 11-2 and levelled the four-game series 1-1. Rangers’ starter, Colby Lewis pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw eight innings and allowed six hits with an ERA of 5.70. Lewis was able to strike-out
six batters on his 109 pitches and gave away one walk with two runs.
Athletics were wavering with the bat and posted just two runs until the end of the game. Brett Anderson had a shaky day with the ball as he pitched five innings with an ERA of 2.95 and surrendered nine hits with seven earned runs on his 90 pitches. Anderson
struck-out only three batters on his respective innings pitched.
Game 3 – May 1: Texas Rangers 2 – Oakland Athletics 7
During the third game of the series, Rangers lost 7-2. Athletics’ right-fielder Conor Jackson shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-3 with an average of .298.
Athletics’ manager, Bob Geren said, “It was great to see the offense up and down the line get some big hits. Having [Crisp] back in there was huge.”
Rangers’ batters took only two runs in this important game. Matt Harrison pitched just over a single inning and gave away four runs, six hits, four earned runs and two walks on his 49 pitches.
Game 4 – May 2: Texas Rangers 4 – Oakland Athletics 5
Athletics won the series finale 5-4 as each player executed superbly in their respective departments. Athletics’ starter, Brandon McCarthy threw his six innings with an ERA of 3.05 and struck-out four batters. However, Athletics were on top druring the entire
series and sealed it comfortably.
