MLB Season Review: Oakland Athletics defeat Chicago White Sox 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Chicago White Sox and Oakland Athletics both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Athletics did an eye-catching job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the White Sox convincingly. Oakland has had a
remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 11: Oakland Athletics 2 – Chicago White Sox 1
Athletics directed a 2-1 win in the first game, as Dallas Braden was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 4.15 and struck-out seven batters in the Athletics victory. Braden said, “I don't really ever let what the
other guy is doing affect my game plan. I actually kind of like it, because you're back out there and back at your craft.”
On the other side, White Sox batters were able to add only one run right through the complete game. Mark Buehrle pitched well for the White Sox but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter during his 99 pitches
and gave away one walk and two hits with an ERA of 4.26.
Game 2 – April 12: Oakland Athletics 5 – Chicago White Sox 6
In the second game, White Sox outclassed the Athletics by 6-5. White Sox starter, Edwin Jackson pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over four innings and allowed seven hits with an ERA of 2.89. Jackson struck-out four batters during his 100
pitches.
Alexei Ramirez said, “I feel really happy with the work I did. I'm especially happy that we won the game.”
Athletics were shaky with the bat and added just five runs until the end of the game. Trevor Cahill had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched just over four innings with an ERA of 3.12 and surrendered six hits with four runs on his 97 pitches. Cahill
struck-out only three batters and gave away four earned runs.
Game 3 – April 13: Oakland Athletics 7 – Chicago White Sox 4
During last game of the series, White Sox lost 7-4. Athletics’ designated hitter Hideki Matsui shined as he struck one RBI and went 2-for-4 with an average of .262. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said, “Three-run lead and he said he can go. That's the reason
we put him there.”
White Sox batters were able to yield only four runs in the series finale. John Danks pitched eight innings and gave away five hits with three walks on his 109 pitches. However, a fabulous team effort gave the Athletics a series win against the struggling
White Sox.
