MLB Season Review: Philadelphia Phillies defeat Atlanta Braves 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Phillies put in a brilliant performance as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Braves convincingly. Phillies have
had a remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the early spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 8: Philadelphia Phillies 3 – Atlanta Braves 6

Braves directed a 6-3 win in the first game, as Tim Hudson was incredible with his pitching. He threw just over seven respective innings with an ERA of 1.84 and struck-out two batters in the Braves victory. Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel said, “He's just
been a good, solid hitter his whole career. I saw him in the minor leagues. He's not a lifetime .300 hitter for nothing.”
On the other side, Phillies’ batters were able to add only three runs right through the complete game. Cliff Lee pitched well for the Phillies but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters during his 73
pitches and gave away one walk, 10 hits, six runs, no home-run and six earned runs with an ERA of 7.84.
Game 2 – April 9: Philadelphia Phillies 10 – Atlanta Braves 2
In the second game, Phillies outshined the Braves 10-2. Phillies’ starter, Roy Oswalt pitched in accurate line but was expensive as he threw six innings and allowed five hits with an ERA of 2.25. Oswalt struck-out two batters during his 90 pitches.
Speaking to interpreters, Oswalt said, “It's a good lineup, a real good lineup. This is a lineup that can beat you all the way down.”
Braves were shaky with the bat and added just two runs until the end of the game. Brandon Beachy struggled with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.75 and surrendered seven hits with two walks on his 80 pitches. Beachy struck-out two batters.
Game 3 – April 10: Philadelphia Phillies 3 – Atlanta Braves 0
During last game of the series, Braves lost 3-0. Phillies’ centre-fielder Shane Victorino shined as he struck one RBI and went 3-for-4 with an average of .417. He put in a brilliant effort to lead his team to victory.
Braves’ batters were unable to yield any run in the series finale. Derek Lowe pitched seven innings and gave away two runs, seven hits, two earned runs and no walk on his 99 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort gave the Phillies the series win against
the struggling Braves. Atlanta will be looking to improve their performance before their next series.
