Phillies’ manager, Charlie Manuel said, “He's been very good. He has good stuff, keeps his composure and he's focused on what he's doing. He's shown he can pitch.”
Nationals struggled with the bat and contributed just four runs until the end of the game. Jason Marquis had an average day with the ball as he threw five innings with an ERA of 3.66 and gave away 10 hits, seven runs, two walks, one homer and six earned
runs on his 89 pitches.
Game 3 – May 5: Washington Nationals 3 – Philadelphia Phillies 7
During the final game of the series, Nationals lost 7-3. Phillies’ left-fielder Raul Ibanez shined as he completed two runs including three RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .214. Phillies’ starter, Roy Halladay pitched seven innings and allowed six
hits, two runs and two earned runs including 10 strike-outs.
Nationals were able to chip in only three runs in the series finale and failed to avoid a clean sweep against the Phillies. John Lannan pitched two innings and gave away six runs, seven hits, six earned runs and one home-run on his 54 pitches. However, a
brilliant team effort kept the Phillies on top against the Nationals throughout the series.
