MLB Season Review: San Diego Padres and Houston Astros level four-game series 2-all
National League’s San Diego Padres and Houston Astros both fought well in a thrilling four game series. Padres and Astros both did an imposing job as they tied the four-game series 2-2. Padres have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary Win-Loss
record during spring training season this year.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 14: San Diego Padres 0 – Houston Astros 1
Astros directed a 1-0 win in the first game, as Bud Norris was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 5.06 and struck-out seven batters in the Astros victory. Norris said, “Giving up a [hit] is not the end of the
world, but making sure that you can get out of that jam and leave that guy on base is the biggest part of it.”
On the other side, Padres’ batters were unable to add even a single run right through the complete game. Dustin Moseley pitched well for the Padres but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out just one batter during his
100 pitches and gave away two walks including seven hits with an ERA of 1.83.
Game 2 – April 15: San Diego Padres 4 – Houston Astros 2
In the second game, Padres outclassed the Astros 4-2. Padres’ starter, Aaron Harang pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw six innings and allowed three hits with an ERA of 1.50. Harang struck-out eight batters on his 99 pitches
and gave away one walk with one earned run.
Astros were shaky with the bat and added just two runs until the end of the game. J.A. Happ had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched seven innings with an ERA of 5.79 and surrendered seven hits with two walks on his 86 pitches. Happ had three strike-outs
on his respective pitches.
Game 3 – April 16: San Diego Padres 3 – Houston Astros 5
During third game of the series, Padres lost 5-3. Astros’ third baseman Chris Johnson shined as he struck two RBIs and went 1-for-3 with an average of .182.
Padres yielded only three runs in this crucial game. Mat Latos pitched just over six innings and gave away five runs, four hits, five earned runs and two walks on his 93 pitches. Astros’ manager, Brad Mills said, “Hopefully I can remember all the good things
that happened.”
Game 4 – April 17: San Diego Padres 8 – Houston Astros 6
Padres won the series finale 8-6 as each player executed particularly well in their respective disciplines. Clayton Richard threw just over five innings with an ERA of 4.50 and struck-out five batters. However, a group effort kept the Padres and Astros both
on top throughout the four-game series.
