MLB Season Review: San Diego Padres rout Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers battled it out in a thrilling three-game series. Padres were remarkable and did a significant job as they completed a 2-1 victory in the series after beating the Dodgers comfortably.
Let us take an overview of these exciting games and see how the Padres beat the Dodgers.
Game 1 – April 29: San Diego Padres 2 – Los Angeles Dodgers 3
Dodgers managed a 3-2 win in the series starter, as Ted Lilly was impressive with his pitching. He had four strike-outs with an ERA of 4.45 in the Dodgers convincing victory. Nick Hundley said, “I knew he was in left after the double-switch. He's a great
outfielder. I've seen him do it for 2 1/2 years now, so it's definitely not surprising, but disappointing nonetheless.”
Padres’ batters were able to contribute only two runs in the initial game. Clayton Richard threw beautifully for the Padres but that was not enough to secure a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only three batters on his 104 pitches and permitted
eight hits with two earned runs.
Game 2 – April 30: San Diego Padres 5 – Los Angeles Dodgers 2
During the second game, Padres defeated the Dodgers 5-2. Padres’ starter, Tim Stauffer threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over six innings and surrendered two runs and four hits on his 99 pitches. Stauffer had seven strike-outs with an ERA of
3.12.
Dodgers’ manager, Don Mattingly said, “Pretty good month. He's had a great month, and Matt [Kemp] together has been a pretty good tandem in the short season so far.”
Los Angeles was uneven with the bat and was able to take only two runs until the closing stages of the game. Hiroki Kuroda had a shaky day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.10 and gave away five hits, two runs, two walks, no homer
and two earned runs on his 100 pitches.
Game 3 – May 1: San Diego Padres 7 – Los Angeles Dodgers 0
During the final game of the series, Dodgers lost 7-0. Padres’ first baseman Brad Hawpe shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .169. Padres’ starter, Dustin Moseley pitched seven innings and allowed only three hits and two walks
including six strike-outs.
Dodgers were unable to score any run in the series finale and failed to dominate the Padres. Jon Garland pitched six innings and gave away three runs, three hits, three earned runs and four walks on his 101 pitches. However, a group effort kept the Padres
on top against the incompatible Dodgers throughout the series.
