MLB Season Review: San Francisco Giants defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks both battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Giants did a noticeable job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Diamondbacks convincingly. Giants have had a
remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 15: San Francisco Giants 5 – Arizona Diamondbacks 2
Giants directed a 5-2 win in the first game, as Matt Cain was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 1.42 and struck-out three batters in the Giants victory. Diamondbacks’ manager, Kirk Gibson said, “He knows he
can pitch and he knows he is good. He comes right at you with good stuff. We aren't the only guys he has beat up on.”
On the other side, Diamondbacks’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Daniel Hudson pitched well for Arizona but that was not enough to get a win for his team. He was able to strike-out 10 batters during his 98 pitches
and gave away three walks, six hits, five runs, one home-run and four earned runs with an ERA of 4.26.
Game 2 – April 16: San Francisco Giants 5 – Arizona Diamondbacks 3
In the second game, Giants outclassed the Diamondbacks 5-3. Giants’ starter, Barry Zito pitched the ball accurately as he threw just over a single inning and allowed only three hits with an ERA of 6.23. Zito was unable to strike-out any batter during his
31 pitches.
Mark DeRosa said, “It's tough for Barry. I don't know what happened or the severity of it, but hats off to Guillermo Mota.”
Diamondbacks were shaky with the bat and added just three runs until the end of the game. Joe Saunders had a weak day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 6.32 and surrendered 12 hits with two walks on his 97 pitches. Saunders
struck-out two batters and gave away just five earned runs.
Game 3 – April 17: San Francisco Giants 5 – Arizona Diamondbacks 6
During the last game of the series, Giants lost 6-5. Diamondbacks’ short-stop Stephen Drew shined as he struck three RBIs and went 2-for-6 with an average of .316.
Giants’ batters were able to yield only five runs in the series finale. Madison Bumgarner pitched just over six innings and gave away four runs, eight hits, four earned runs and one home-run on his 101 pitches. However, a decent team effort gave the Giants
the series win against the Diamondbacks.
