MLB Season Review: San Francisco Giants defeat St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals both went head-to-head in a thrilling three game series. Giants put in a brilliant performance as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Cardinals convincingly. Giants have
had a remarkable season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 8: St. Louis Cardinals 4 – San Francisco Giants 5

Giants directed a 5-4 win in the first game, as Jonathan Sanchez was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective five innings with an ERA of 2.53 and struck-out seven batters in the Giants victory. Giants’ manager, Bruce Bochy said, “It's obvious
we're not retiring torture. This was a very emotional day, all day. And the game was an emotional roller coaster.”
On the other side, Cardinals’ batters were able to add only four runs right through the complete game. Jake Westbrook pitched well for the Cardinals but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters during his
108 pitches and gave away four walks, eight hits, three runs, two home-runs and three earned runs with an ERA of 9.90.
Game 2 – April 9: St. Louis Cardinals 2 – San Francisco Giants 3
In the second game, Giants outshined the Cardinals 3-2. Giants’ starter, Matt Cain pitched the ball in accurate line but was expensive as he threw seven innings and allowed five hits with an ERA of 1.38. Cain struck-out four batters during his 99 pitches.
Speaking to interpreters, Miguel Tejada said, “I'm really happy right now. I'm going to enjoy the moment.”
Cardinals were shaky with the bat and added just two runs until the end of the game. Jaime Garcia struggled with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 0.60 and surrendered four hits with one walk on his 82 pitches. Garcia struck-out nine batters.
Game 3 – April 10: St. Louis Cardinals 6 – San Francisco Giants 1
During last game of the series, Giants lost 6-1. Cardinals’ third baseman David Freese shined as he struck three RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .250. Cardinals’ manager, Tony La Russa said, “You have to start somewhere. You build a little momentum
and a little confidence and you build on it.”
Giants’ batters yielded only one run in a series finale. Barry Zito pitched just over five innings and gave away four runs, six hits, four earned runs and five walks on his 97 pitches. However, a team effort gave the Giants a series win against the struggling
Cardinals.
