MLB Season Review: Seattle Mariners beat Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays both went head-to-head in an exciting three game series. Mariners did a tremendous job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Blue Jays. Mariners have had a remarkable season
so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief summary of these terrific games:
Game 1 – April 11: Toronto Blue Jays 7 – Seattle Mariners 8
Mariners directed an 8-7 win in the first game, as Felix Hernandez was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 4.50 and struck-out six batters in the Mariners victory. Blue Jays’ manager, John Farrell said, “A tough
night on the mound. Things obviously had to go right for us in the first part of it, but we simply lost the strike zone, to say the least.”
On the other side, Blue Jays’ batters were able to add seven runs right through the complete game. Jesse Litsch pitched well for the Blue Jays but that was not enough to steal a win for his team. He was able to strike-out four batters during his 111 pitches
and gave away four walks including five hits with an ERA of 2.38.
Game 2 – April 12: Toronto Blue Jays 2 – Seattle Mariners 3
In the second game, Mariners outclassed the Blue Jays 3-2. Mariners’ starter, Michael Pineda pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw just over seven innings and allowed five hits with an ERA of 2.70. Pineda struck-out seven batters on his 103 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Pineda said, “I'm excited. It's my first game winning here. I don't know, I'm just really excited.”
Blue Jays were shaky with the bat and added just two runs until the end of the game. Ricky Romero had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched eight innings with an ERA of 1.66 and surrendered five hits with two walks on his 113 pitches. Romero struck-out
eight batters and gave away two earned runs.
Game 3 – April 13: Toronto Blue Jays 8 – Seattle Mariners 3
During the last game of the series, Mariners lost 8-3. Blue Jays’ right-fielder Jose Bautista shined as he struck three RBIs and went 1-or-5 with an average of .353.
Mariners’ batters were able to yield only three runs in the series finale. Jason Vargas pitched just over six innings for the Mariners and gave away one run, five hits, one earned run and one walk on his 105 pitches. However, an impressive team effort gave
the Mariners a series win against the struggling Blue Jays.
