MLB Season Review: St. Louis Cardinals defeat Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s St. Louis Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks both fought it out in a thrilling three game series. Cardinals did a brilliant job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after defeating the Diamondbacks. Cardinals have had a remarkable
season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these inspiring games:
Game 1 – April 11: St. Louis Cardinals 8 – Arizona Diamondbacks 2

Cardinals directed an 8-2 win in the first game, as Kyle McClellan was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective six innings with an ERA of 2.25 and struck-out four batters in the Cardinals victory. McClellan said, “Four walks isn't what you
want, but I made pitches when I needed to and I've got to work on trying to throw less pitches per inning.”
On the other side, Diamondbacks’ batters were able to add only two runs right through the complete game. Barry Enright pitched well for the Diamondbacks but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only four batters during
his 85 pitches and gave away one walk, nine hits, four runs, no home-run and four earned runs with an ERA of 6.00.
Game 2 – April 12: St. Louis Cardinals 8 – Arizona Diamondbacks 13
In the second game, Diamondbacks outclassed the Cardinals 13-8. Diamondbacks’ starter, Armando Galarraga pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw five innings and allowed nine hits with an ERA of 6.75. Galarraga struck-out three batters during his 99
pitches.
Miguel Montero said, “It felt great to get some support from him. It feels even better when he got thrown out of the game.”
Cardinals struggled with the bat and added just eight runs until the end of the game. Chris Carpenter had an insecure day with the ball as he pitched four innings with an ERA of 5.82 and surrendered eight hits with eight runs on his 83 pitches. Carpenter
struck-out only four batters and gave away eight earned runs.
Game 3 – April 13: St. Louis Cardinals 15 – Arizona Diamondbacks 5
During the last game of the series, Diamondbacks lost 15-5. Cardinals’ centre-fielder Colby Rasmus shined as he struck two RBIs and went 3-for-6 with an average of .375. Lance Berkman said, “You always feel like you can do it, but obviously it's good to
prove it to everyone and also to yourself.”
Diamondbacks’ batters were able to yield only five runs in the series finale. Ian Kennedy pitched three innings and gave away seven hits with two walks on his 69 pitches. However, a team effort gave the Cardinals the series win against the struggling Diamondbacks.
