MLB Season Review: St. Louis Cardinals defeat Washington Nationals 2-1 in three-game series
National League’s San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals fought it out in a thrilling three game series. Cardinals did a valuable job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after beating the Nationals convincingly. Cardinals have had a remarkable
season so far as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the season.
Let us take a brief outline of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 20: Washington Nationals 8 – St. Louis Cardinals 6

Nationals directed an 8-6 win in the first game, as John Lannan was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective five innings with an ERA of 3.43 and struck-out two batters in the Nationals victory. Ryan Franklin said, “They hit one ball hard and
everything else I made pitches. You can't keep being negative on yourself; you've got to try to take something positive out of it.”
On the other side, Cardinals’ batters were able to add only six runs right through the complete game. Jake Westbrook pitched well for the Cardinals but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only one batter during his 68
pitches and gave away two walks, seven hits, seven runs, no home-run and seven earned runs with an ERA of 9.82.
Game 2 – April 20: Washington Nationals 3 – St. Louis Cardinals 5

In the second game, Cardinals outclassed the Nationals 5-3. Cardinals’ starter, Jaime Garcia pitched the ball accurately as he threw five innings and allowed only four hits with an ERA of 1.44. Garcia was able to strike-out just four batters during his 101
pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Lance Berkman said, “I was hopeful something like this would happen, that I'd get off to a good start and have something to build on.”
Nationals were uneven with the bat and added just three runs until the end of the game. Jordan Zimmermann had a bad day with the ball as he pitched six innings with an ERA of 3.70 and surrendered eight hits with two walks on his 96 pitches. Zimmermann struck-out
only three batters and gave away five earned runs.
Game 3 – April 21: Washington Nationals 0 – St. Louis Cardinals 5
During last game of the series, Nationals lost 5-0. Cardinals’ left-fielder Matt Holliday shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-3 with an average of .455.
Nationals’ batters were unable to yield any run in the series finale. Tom Gorzelanny pitched five innings and gave away two runs, two hits, two earned runs and one home-run on his 108 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort gave the Cardinals a series
win against the struggling Nationals.
