MLB Season Review: Tampa Bay Rays defeat Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 in three-game series
American League’s Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Rays did a tremendous job as they sealed a 2-1 victory in this series after beating the Blue Jays convincingly. Rays have had a remarkable season so far
as they got an acceptable Win-Loss record during the spring training season.
Let us take a brief outline of these thrilling games:
Game 1 – April 22: Tampa Bay Rays 4 – Toronto Blue Jays 6
Blue Jays directed a 6-4 win in the first game, as Jo-Jo Reyes was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective seven innings with an ERA of 6.20 and struck-out six batters in the Blue Jays victory. Adam Russell said, “I liked my fastball matchup
against him. It just didn't get where I wanted it to go and I paid the price.”
On the other side, Rays’ batters were able to add only four runs right through the complete game. Jeremy Hellickson pitched well for the Rays but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only six batters during his 94 pitches
and gave away two walks, six hits, three runs, one home-run and three earned runs with an ERA of 4.32.
Game 2 – April 23: Tampa Bay Rays 6 – Toronto Blue Jays 4
In the second game, Rays outclassed the Blue Jays 6-4. Rays’ starter, David Price pitched the ball accurately as he threw eight innings and allowed eight hits with an ERA of 3.19. Price was able to strike-out just five batters during his 102 pitches.
Speaking to reporters, Price said, “We were up four going into the ninth and they were a base hit away from tying the game up.”
Blue Jays struggled with the bat and added just four runs until the end of the game. Brandon Morrow had an average day with the ball as he pitched just over five innings with an ERA of 5.06 and surrendered three hits with two walks on his 93 pitches. Morrow
struck-out 10 batters and gave away three earned runs.
Game 3 – April 24: Tampa Bay Rays 2 – Toronto Blue Jays 0
During last game of the series, Blue Jays lost 2-0. Rays’ right-fielder Ben Zobrist shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .203.
Blue Jays’ batters were unable to yield any run in the series finale. Ricky Romero pitched seven innings and gave away two runs, five hits, two earned runs and one home-run on his 102 pitches. However, a brilliant team effort gave the Rays the series win
against the struggling Blue Jays.
