MLB Season Review: Tampa Bay Rays sweep Boston Red Sox 2-0
American League’s Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays both battled it out in a thrilling three game series. Tampa Bay did an imposing job as they brushed aside the Red Sox 2-0 in this series. Rays have had an amazing season as they got an exemplary Win-Loss
record this year.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 11: Tampa Bay Rays 16 – Boston Red Sox 5
Rays managed a 16-5 win in the first game, as Jeremy Hellickson was impressive with his pitching. He had one strike-out with an ERA of 4.09 in the Rays convincing victory. Rays’ manager, Joe Maddon was excited after this credible win as he said, “That was
nice to see. Really consistent at-bats throughout the game. We attacked pitches, sprayed the ball all around the place.”
Sam Fuld had a memorable day with the bat as he went 4-or-6 with an average of .321 and hit three RBIs including three runs. Johnny Damon, Matt Joyce, Ben Zobrist, B.J. Upton, Casey Kotchman and many other players added 16 runs collectively to give the Rays
a competitive lead over the Red Sox.
Conversely, Red Sox batters contributed five runs to keep themselves alive. Carl Crawford, Dustin Pedroia, Jed Lowrie, David Ortiz and Jacoby Ellsbury each added five runs jointly for the Red Sox. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched well for his team but that was
not enough to steal a win for the Red Sox. He struck-out two batters on his 47 pitches. Matsuzaka permitted seven runs, eight hits, two walks, two home-runs and seven earned runs with an ERA of 12.86.
Game 2 – April 12: Tampa Bay Rays 3 – Boston Red Sox 2
In the second or final game of the series, Rays outclassed the Red Sox 3-2. Rays’ starter, David Price threw the ball in good line as he pitched just over seven innings and surrendered only two runs, five hits, one home-run and two earned runs on his 116
pitches. Price had three strike-outs with an ERA of 3.92.
Maddon said, “Both starting pitchers were very good. I just love David's tenacity. This is a young man with great stuff, but tenacity to make him great. He just kept coming after them.”
Red Sox Pedroia and Darnell McDonald were the only two players who scored two runs for their team. Jon Lester had a shaky day with the ball as he threw seven innings with an ERA of 3.72 and gave away seven hits, three runs, two walks, no homer and three
earned runs on his 109 pitches. Lester struck-out eight batters on his respective pitched innings.
However, a decent group effort kept the Rays on top and they swept the Red Sox comfortably.
