MLB Season Review: Texas Rangers sweep Kansas City Royals 3-0
American League’s Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers both fought well in a rousing three game series. Rangers did an impressive job as they sealed a 3-0 victory in this series after defeating the Royals convincingly. Rangers have had an extraordinary season
so far as they gave an exemplary performance during the spring training season.
Let us take a brief summary of these exciting games:
Game 1 – April 22: Kansas City Royals 6 – Texas Rangers 11
Rangers directed an 11-6 win in the first game, as Derek Holland was impressive with his pitching. He had nine strike-outs with an ERA of 4.39 in the Rangers convincing victory. Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said, “We did a good job of just keeping it
in the big part of the field. By doing that, we were able to centre some balls and do some good things.”
Conversely, Royals’ batters were able to add only six runs in the complete game. Jeff Francis pitched well for the Royals but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only two batters on his 88 pitches and permitted nine
hits with five earned runs.
Game 2 – April 23: Kansas City Royals 1 – Texas Rangers 3
In the second game, Rangers outclassed the Royals 3-1. Rangers’ starter, Alexi Ogando threw the ball in good line as he pitched six innings and surrendered just one run, five hits and one walk with one earned run on his 114 pitches. Ogando had just five
strike-outs with an ERA of 2.13.
Washington said, “When he came out of the bullpen and I welcomed him to the big leagues and I put my hand on him. He was ready to go. And the results proved just that.”
Royals struggled with the bat and added just one run until the end of the game. Kyle Davies had an average day with the ball as he threw six innings with an ERA of 6.23 and gave away four hits, three runs, one walk, no homer and two earned runs on his 112
pitches.
Game 3 – April 24: Kansas City Royals 7 – Texas Rangers 8
During final game of the series, Royals lost 8-7. Rangers’ third baseman Adrian Beltre shined as he completed two runs including one RBI and went 2-for-2 with an average of .272.
Royals’ batters were able to add seven runs in the series finale. Bruce Chen pitched just over four innings and gave away six runs, seven hits, six earned runs and three walks on his 83 pitches. However, a tremendous team effort kept the Rangers on top against
the Royals throughout the series.
