MLB Season Review: Washington Nationals rout San Francisco Giants 3-1 in four-game series
National League’s Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants went head-to-head in a hard fought four-game series. Nationals were remarkable and did a significant job as they confirmed a 3-1 victory in the series after defeating the Giants comfortably.
Let us take a summary of these four games and see how the Nationals dominated the Giants.
Game 1 – April 29: San Francisco Giants 0 – Washington Nationals 3
Nationals directed a 3-0 win in the first game, as Jason Marquis was incredible with his pitching. He threw his respective nine innings with an ERA of 2.62 and struck-out seven batters in the Nationals victory. Speaking to reporters, Marquis said, “I'm getting
more consistent as time goes on. I feel like I'm learning more about myself day-by-day and start-by-start.”
On the other hand, Giants’ batters were unable to score any run right through the complete game. Tim Lincecum threw nicely for the Giants but that was not enough to earn a win for his team. He was able to strike-out only seven batters during his 111 pitches
and gave away three earned runs including seven hits with an ERA of 2.90.
Game 2 – April 30: San Francisco Giants 2 – Washington Nationals 1
In the second game, Giants outclassed the Nationals 2-1 and levelled the four-game series 1-all. Giants’ starter, Jonathan Sanchez pitched the ball in accurate line as he threw five innings and allowed two hits with an ERA of 2.73. Sanchez struck-out seven
batters on his 103 pitches and gave away six walks with one run.
Nationals were shaky with the bat and contributed just one run until the end of the game. John Lannan had an unsteady day with the ball as he pitched just over six innings with an ERA of 3.78 and surrendered six hits with two earned runs on his 93 pitches.
Lannan struck-out only three batters on his respective pitched innings.
Game 3 – May 1: San Francisco Giants 2 – Washington Nationals 5
During the third game of the series, Giants lost 2-5. Nationals’ catcher Ivan Rodriguez shined as he struck two RBIs and went 2-for-4 with an average of .227.
Rodriguez said, “That's like if I hit 4 for 4, to be honest with you. Throwing a guy out late in the game like that, that's a game-saving play right there.”
Giants’ batters took only two runs in this crucial game. Matt Cain pitched six innings and gave away three runs, seven hits, two earned runs and three walks on his 107 pitches.
Game 4 – May 2: San Francisco Giants 0 – Washington Nationals 2
Nationals won the series finale 2-0 as each player executed superbly in their respective departments. Nationals’ starter, Tom Gorzelanny threw his eight innings with an ERA of 2.93 and struck-out four batters. However, the Nationals were on top till the
last game and sealed a series victory.
