MLB Special: Chicago White Sox - Younger players to lead the way
The Chicago White Sox had a relatively mixed 2011 regular season as they finished right in the middle of the American League Central Division with 79 wins and 83 games lost. The team is looking to their younger players to hopefully take charge and dominate in the upcoming 2012 regular season.
Players like Brent Morel, Chris Sale, Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers are the young stars that the White Sox are banking on for the upcoming season. The team is hoping that these players will take charge and show off their true talents to help the team to a winning position this year. Especially after a dismal season last year, the White Sox now feel that it is the younger players that need to step it up a notch and put in good performances.
As Spring Training is right around the corner, the White Sox will be hoping that their young players get some valuable practice on the field. The team understands the importance of Spring Training as it allows for the squad to try out different player rotations and positions before the regular season begins. Going up against some of the top tier teams in the League, the training sessions give a valuable opportunity for the younger players to get their initial jitters out of the way and face some of the best hitters and pitchers in the League.
The club certainly wants to turn their fortunes around as their Division is dominated by the Detroit Tigers. As most critics will agree, the Tigers are a more powerful and balanced team than the White Sox. However, if last season was any indication, Chicago managed keep the Cleveland Indians close as they finished only one game behind in the AL Central Division. If the Tigers are too strong, the White Sox still have hope of dominated the other teams in their Division and quite possibly making to the playoffs.
The White Sox do have a nice mix of experience and youth, but the time has now come for the younger players to show their worth. The team is fully supporting their younger players and not opting for purchasing big name players to massive contracts. The players are being given a tremendous opportunity to bring out their talents and put in a good performance for the team. The White Sox will be hoping they can bank of these players like they do their more senior ones.
Experienced players like Paul Konerko and A. J. Pierzynski have be re-signed for the 2012 MLB regular season and Adam Dunn has been brought in to stimulate the hitting. The White Sox are always expecting great things from their more experienced players and this time around there is no difference.
In essence the White Sox will love to find the perfect balance of experience and youth that can effectively compete with the other top tier teams in the League. If they can achieve this balance, the team might give the Detroit Tigers a good run for their money and quite possibly make it into the post-season this year.
As the regular season is usually filled many surprises, it would not be unusual to see the White Sox achieve great things this season as they give their younger players all the confidence they need to perform at their highest level. After Spring Training, we will get a better idea of how the White Sox stand and what their chances of making it far will be.
