MLB – Stephen Strasburg surfing from a devastating injury
Major league seems to be heading towards h**l. Everything seems to be topsy turvy in the league, with the recent as players are getting arrested or to be Hall-of-Famers are admitting to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
Washington Nations star rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg, seems to have hit the wall. Stephen tore his ligament and the General Manager Mike Rizzo told the press that the MRI revealed is a “significant tear.”
"As you can imagine, he was initially upset. But he has really turned himself from being upset to being focused on his rehabilitation. He's determined to get the surgery done and begin the process of rehabilitation,” said Rizzo.
The Washington Nationals are set to travel on Saturday to the West Coast to get a second opinion on the MRI, however most of the organization have concluded the fact Strasburg needs a ligament replacement operation, which could take up to 18 months of rehabilitation.
Strasburg was initially extremely upset and for a few hours was said to be extremely confused and emotional but eventually accepted the fact he might not be playing until 2012. "I didn't take a matter of minutes. I took definitely a few hours. I've got great support all around me, and they reminded me of everything I should be thankful for, and they put everything in perspective for me. Bottom line, this is a game. I'm very blessed to play this game for a living. It's a minor setback, but in the grand scheme of things it's just a blip on the radar screen." exclaimed Strasburg.
Last Saturday Strasburg threw a pitch which is being called his pitch of the year. He threw a 1-1 changeup to Domonic Brown an outfielder who plays for the Philadelphia Phillies. At first the injury was recognized as strained flexor tendon in the forearm by the Washington Nationals, however the MRI showed it to be torn.
Stephen Strasburg was the No.1 overall pick in last year’s drafting season. He was signed on by the Nationals for record deal ever of a contract worth $15.1 million. A lot of attention was drawn towards the young rising star, after he struck out 14 batters in his debut last year. He made 92 strikeouts in 68 innings with a 2.91 ERA.
Strasburg is known to be an intense and competitive player, he wasn’t happy when the Nationals put restrictions on him and had to start as the season in the minors. Sadly now, he will have to go through a surgery which he has never had to go through in his baseball life.
Mike Rizzo told the press, the team was frustrated, however pitchers break down and get hurt occasionally and the team is certainly not second-guessing.
