MLB Update: Its official Orlando Hudson joins the San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres have been looking for ammunition in the past few days and they have the necessary resources to do so. Adrian Gonzalez was one player to leave the ranks and since his departure was realized by the management, a plethora of resources have
been cropped up by the board members to spend on new additional players. It hasn’t taken them much time to hit the jackpot as one recent acquisition comes in the form of former Minnesota Twins second baseman, Orlando Hudson.
Hudson along with Jason Bartlett will act as a top commodity hitter on the front line. Their mission would emphasize on strengthening the attack of the club. The Padres were weak in committing to runs last season and they will work towards bashing the ball
towards the stands in search of quick runs along the diamond. The management is looking to slash away the prior approach which involved playing defensively on the plate. The two hitters will ignite the hitting order and that is one way the need for runs can
be quelled.
Orlando played a major role in the Twins’ line up, last season. However, his reemployment never came to the discussion table as Minnesota opted to acquire Tsuyoshi Nishioka for the second baseman position. Nevertheless, the opportunities for Hudson never
skimmed out. The runs minting machine got an offer from the Padres which he never thought to look back on. He signed a two year deal worth $11.5 million. General Manager Jed Hoyer seems pleased with the transaction as he came out to give his comments on the
activity.
"I think with the addition of Cameron Maybin, Jason Bartlett and now Orlando we feel a ton better about our team up the middle," Jed Hoyer said.
"Orlando is a proven winner, a four-time Gold Glove winner and I think he's going to bring a ton of offense to our team, a ton of defence and a ton of energy."
Runs has been an issue for San Diego and their recent ranking of 28 in the 2010 batting average category has left fans demanding more. The team availed an average ratio of .246 and that will improve as Orlando joins the squad.
"That's something we desperately need here and last year we didn't have at the top of our line up," GM Jed Hoyer said.
"Orlando is a second baseman who gets on base and that's really our focus."
